Faye Update at 3:11 PM Friday

Well there is NO staph infection which is very good. Her white counts did not move over night, which is good in the sense they did not go up. She has C diffiicile colitis, which is VERY contagious. If you visit you have to wear a gown and gloves and you can not touch her with an unprotected area of your body. At this point they are giving her 3 different Antibiotics to see if she can fight it. One complication could be that her colon is inflamed and could perforate, which at that point she becomes septic. Once you have this you are very susceptible to it coming back.

I will update as more becomes available.

About Faye (Dan's Mom)

Well there is lots going on in our lives but the biggest is Dan's Mom.......................................
She was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday with a stomach bug, severe dehydration, and mini strokes..............boy what a change 2 days makes.......................

They did a c-scan on her abdomen and pelvis today (Thurs) and also thought she had a staph infection.
Turns out her colon is infected and severely swollen. They are trying an antibiotic but does not look promising (she has been on antibiotics since Tues). They are going to take her blood counts in the morning but if they continue to rise like they have been there are 2 choices:
1st is leave it and continue to treat with antibiotics, if continues on the same path that would mean she will become septic and probably not make it through a week.
2nd is surgery…. This is very complicated due to her health. If she can make it though it she would most likely be in ICU for weeks to months given her health. Do to the fact she is on steroids for her breathing (it makes it harder and longer for healing process) that will make the healing process even worse. Also, she will most likely be put on a ventilator and then have to be weaned off (which would also be a long hard process for her). Not to mention that after all of this her life expectancy would only be 6mos to a year at best. In the surgery they would remove her colon; she will have a bag and run lots of risks of dehydration and infections.
Dan and Jim were with her tonight and she does not want surgery. The family does not want her to go through all of that.
Everyone agrees that she will not have the surgery.
We will know Friday about the blood counts so it is now just a waiting game.

The family is just praying that the Good Lord does what ever his will is but with out a lot of pain and suffering.
I will keep you posted.
